On July 30, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and the National Defense Forces renewed their attempts to capture the town of Kbanah from Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda) and other radical militant groups.
Pro-government sources argue that this advance was launched in the framework of the wider effort to pressure militants along the contact line creating a wider buffer zone that should prevent them from shelling civilian areas.
During the past few months, government forces launched several attempts to capture Kbanah, but all of them was repelled by militants.
On July 28 and July 29, the SAA and its allies liberated the villages of Jibeen and Tell Meleh from radical militants. According to pro-government sources, miltiant groups lost several pieces of military equipment and around a dozen of their members in these clashes.

British Marines Used ‘Excessive Force’ While Seizing Iranian-operated Tanker – Captain
The captain of an Iranian-operated supertanker that has been seized by the UK said the British marines used excessive force while detaining the vessel in the Strait of Gibraltar off Spain.
Speaking to the BBC on Tuesday, the captain, an Indian national, said he received a radio call for police to board his ship and that he lowered the ladder at the time of the incident on July 4.
But instead of police boarding, he said, a military helicopter landed on the ship in “a very dangerous move,” and about 30 marines disembarked.
He said the marines then acted aggressively even though the crew was unarmed.
“How do you come on a ship like this with armed forces and such brute force? For what reason?” he said.
He said he identified himself as the captain, but the marines ignored him and instead had his unarmed crew kneel…

ولفت في مقالة له، الانتباه إلى أن العلاقة الخاصة بين أميركا و»قوات سورية الديمقراطية» قسد ستنتهي يوماً ما.
وأشار السفير السابق إلى أن الولايات المتحدة لن تتدخل في مسألة الوضع في إدلب معتبراً أن سورية لم تهاجم الولايات المتحدة وبالتالي ليس من حق واشنطن التدخل في هذه الحالة، أما الطريق الثاني وهو التدخل عن طريق مجلس الأمن، أوضح أن الولايات المتحدة لم تحصل على تفويض من مجلس الأمن بسبب المواقف الروسية والصينية.
