5 ΔΕΚΕΜΒΡΙΟΥ 1997. Η κυβέρνηση Σημίτη παρουσιάζει την Ελληνοτουρκική συμφωνία επί της νέας δομής του ΝΑΤΟ. Το μνημείο αυτό του αίσχους που ήταν η επίσημη αποδοχή «συνδιαχείρισης» του Αιγαίου με την Τουρκία προκαλεί αντιδράσεις μέσα στην κυβέρνηση. Ενδεικτικό είναι ότι ο Τούρκος υπουργός Αμυνας, Σεζγκίν, ισχυρίστηκε ότι με τη νέα δομή του ΝΑΤΟ, το Αιγαίο τίθεται υπό κοινή ευθύνη.

Ο Γεράσιμος Αρσένης εκφράζει ανοιχτά την διαφωνία του όπως και άλλοι βουλευτές. Αρχίζουν λοιπόν επιθέσεις εναντίον των διαφωνούντων από τους πολύ στενούς φίλους του πρωθυπουργού, όπως ο Τάσος  Μαντέλης, που κατηγόρησε τους έχοντες αντίθετη άποψη από την επίσημη «γραμμή» ότι κινούνται σε «σοβινιστική» κατεύθυνση, ενώ, έκανε λόγο για «ακροδεξιές απόψεις» μέσα στο ΠΑΣΟΚ.

 

Λίγες ημέρες μετά, πάλι τον Δεκέμβρη του 1997, ο Τάσος Μαντέλης υπογράφει την ανάθεση έργων ύψους 222,7 δισεκατομμυρίων δραχμών στην Intracom και 150 δισ. στη Siemens. Την επονομαζόμενη και ως σύμβαση…

Μετά τις αγωγές του Αλέξη Τσίπρα κατά δύο δημοσιογράφων και της Alter Ego Α.Ε., εκτυλίσσεται μια επιχείρηση αποπροσανατολισμού της κοινής γνώμης. Το κρίσιμο ζήτημα, αν είναι αληθείς ή ψευδείς και συκοφαντικοί οι επίμαχοι ισχυρισμοί, επιχειρούν να το διαστρέψουν στο εάν ένας πρώην πρωθυπουργός και νυν αρχηγός της αξιωματικής αντιπολίτευσης πρέπει να προσφεύγει στα δικαστήρια. Γιατί, δήθεν, έτσι τρομοκρατούνται οι δημοσιογράφοι, απειλείται η ελευθεροτυπία και εμποδίζεται η ακώλυτη κριτική στους πολιτικούς.

Το πολιτικά γελοίο του πράγματος αποδεικνύουν τα δύο μέτρα και δύο σταθμά – οι δεκάδες αγωγές από πολιτικούς της Δεξιάς εναντίον δημοσιογράφων. Αλλά στους ολοφάνερα προσχηματικούς αυτούς ισχυρισμούς επιχειρούν να προσδώσουν και μια κάποια νομική βάση, με την αόριστη επίκληση…

The occupation arrests six Palestinians in West Bank

Days of Palestine – Ramallah – Six Palestinians were arrested by Israeli occupation forces during raids last night and today in the occupied West Bank districts of Jenin, Hebron, and Nablus.

In Jenin, Israeli forces broke into the town of Qabatiya, where they detained three Palestinians after raiding and searching their homes.

In Nablus Governorate, the occupation forces detained two Palestinians: Imran Hashash and Muhammad Kayed Hashashin, both of whom were from Balata camp, east of Nablus.

In Hebron, the occupation forces arrested a young man, Basil Dawoud Abu Subeih, 22, while he was passing through a military checkpoint in the Fahs area at the southern entrance to the city.

Israeli forces kill a Palestinian man south of Bethlehem

Days of Palestine -Bethlehem – The Israeli occupation forces shot dead a Palestinian young man today south of the city of Bethlehem, in the occupied West Bank, according to local sources.

Soldiers at the main junction outside the illegal settlement bloc of Gush Etzion reportedly south of Bethlehem, shot the young man while he was in the area, seriously wounding him, leaving him to bleed on the ground until he was martyred.

Shortly following the deadly incident, the occupation forces blocked the main Bethlehem-Hebron street to the Palestinian traffic, causing a traffic jam.

Last week, the boy, Atallah Muhammad Rayan (17 years), from Qarawat Bani Hassan, was killed by bullets from the occupation soldiers near the town of Salfit.

“Facebook, we need to talk,” say Palestinian and pro-Palestine advocates

Palestinian and pro-Palestine advocates have launched a petition calling Facebook to not expand its hate speech policies to include speech critical of “‘Israel’ and Zionism.”

“Facebook should refuse to cooperate with those who seek to build more walls to keep us apart. We call on Facebook to not add “Zionist” as a protected category in its hate speech policy.”

The petition has been signed by notable human rights activists and cultural figures such as Hanan Ashrawi, Norita Cortiñas, Wallace Shawn and Peter Gabriel.

The petition says that if Facebook restricts the usage of the word “Zionist,” it would prevent Palestinians from talking about their daily lives, shield the Israeli occupation government from accountability for human rights violations, and do nothing to make Jewish people safer from anti-Semitism.
